In-Home Companion and Support For Seniors

Companion care is an in-home service that provides companionship to seniors and others with a limited social circle. It is not the same as home health, which provides trained medical care in the home. Instead, companion care focuses on those non-medical needs.

This type of service is ideal for seniors who desire a little support, like assistance with pet care and taking out the trash, or could benefit from monitoring in the house. It can also be helpful in times of grief or isolation when simply having someone to share a meal and converse with can make all the difference.

At Preferred Care at Home, we understand that many family members take on the role of caregiver themselves. By utilizing our companion care services, family members can take a little time for themselves.

Whether it be taking care of young children or simply taking a self-care day to recharge and return to your loved one ready to tackle the rest of the day, we can help. Your caregiver will be able to assist with grocery shopping, meal preparation, light housekeeping, errands, pet care, emotional support, and more.

Outstanding Care; Incredible Communication

“Outstanding care; incredible communication. There is no greater peace of mind than knowing your elderly relative is getting quality care with genuine compassion. I can’t ask for anything more from the team at Preferred Care. They spend time just visiting and giving a lonely 89 year old some much needed social interaction. They have guided me with what I and my siblings can do to make things easier on Mom. THIS is the service you need to use!”

Our Companion Care Services

At Preferred Care at Home of Central New Jersey we pride ourselves on employing compassionate, responsible, and reliable caregivers to meet any and all needs of our clients.

Light Housekeeping

house cleaning

Keeping a household clean tends to be a challenge for aging seniors and others with limited mobility or significant health issues. Our caregivers are well trained in cleaning, organizing, and keeping the home tidy.

During our initial visit, our registered nurse and your assigned caregiver will complete a detailed care plan that outlines the specific tasks to be completed. This can include cleaning the bathrooms, vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, moping, doing laundry, putting away grocery deliveries, and so much more.

We will assist with trash and recycling pick up to eliminate the fall risk of our clients walking to the curb.

Errands and Outings

Social interaction is crucial for the overall wellness of seniors. As people age their social circle naturally declines due to death or housing changes.

Having a Preferred Care at Home companion to take your loved one out for meals, a day of shopping or a simple walk through the neighborhood  helps keep them socially engaged. If your loved one is unable to leave the home, our caregivers will do all of these tasks during their shift so you as the family member can enjoy the time spent with your loved one.

Many of our companion caregivers will accompany clients to doctor appointments and take notes regarding medication adjustments or changes to medical conditions. This ensures that any instructions given including medications prescribed or follow up appointments made are not missed.

Emotional Support

social interaction

Seniors experience many changes in their life that affect them emotionally. Family members moving away, the passing of close friends, and losing their sense of independence can deeply impact a senior’s sense of well being.

With a Preferred Care at Home caregiver, we offer the support and companionship they may be missing in their life. Many of our clients feel as though their caregivers are part of the family and often check in with us after care has ended to see how their companion is doing.

Our goal as a home care agency is to blend our caregivers with your family to ensure we provide the best possible service.

Meal Preparation

healthy meal preparation

A healthy, balanced diet is often overlooked as we age. Having a companion caregiver that is knowledgeable in proper nutrition can be key in maintaining proper cognitive and physical health.

Our caregivers work under the direct supervision of a registered nurse who will guide them in monitoring dietary restrictions and adhering to food preferences based on the diagnosis or condition of their client.

Having a healthy home cooked meal provides a sense of comfort for our clients, while maintaining proper nutrition.

Medication Reminders

Keeping track of multiple medications can become a challenge for seniors. We often see clients taking medications they no longer need, missing doses, or running out of a prescription unexpectedly.

With a companion caregiver in the home, we can ensure medications are taking on schedule, keep track of changing medications and ensure refills are called in on time.
